Unavoidable Delay

I know what you're thinking. Three or four posts & now she's gone again. How many months this time?

You're wrong.

I wanted to blog. I really did. I just couldn't.

My laptop's been acting squirrely lately. Tons of pop-ups. A banner across the top, another along the right side, plus a little tiny one right in the middle of the page.

All the time. The top & side pop-ups weren't too bad. Irritating but ignorable. The little one in the middle of the page was the one that really got on my nerves. It was a floater. You'd scroll down & think you escaped but then when you stopped scrolling it would pop back up in the middle of the page.

Sneaky little bastard.

We tried to fix it but nothing worked. Running a virus scan didn't get rid of it so I tried setting it back to a restore point, but that didn't work either. Then we decided to just reset it like it was when we got it, but that didn't work. The guy at the computer store said instead of burning a restore disk we could just put it on a flash drive, so we did.

Guess what happened when we tried to use the restore flash drive.

Jack shit, that's what.

Keith took it back to the store where we bought it & told them what was wrong.

Yeah, turns out flash drives don't always work for restore disks. Nice of them to mention that.

Wish they would have said something when we bought the computer.

So anyway, my computer's been in the hospital the last couple of days or I would have blogged something.

Not that anything really blog-worthy has happened lately. Went to work, came home, went to work, came home.

My New Year's resolutions are going ok. So far this year I've had one soda, & that was when I went out shopping Saturday with Mom & Keith. I've been walking. Just 15 minutes but I planned on starting slow & getting used to it. My ultimate goal is to run to the dam in Winfield & back. That's about 10 or 15 miles. About a half marathon. There's a real cold snap now so I'm taking a break from walking for a couple of days. Maybe I'll do a couple of laps around the lunchroom at work. Now that my laptop is tiptop I'm going to start working on my e-mails. Or maybe I'll start with My Documents. Or maybe I'll alternate a little of one then a little of the other.

I saved everything from my laptop onto a flash disk & Keith is convinced I shouldn't put it all back on the computer. I should just pop in the flash drive if I want something, but, first of all, that would be a pain in the ass since I like to keep my back-up flash drive in my purse. That way if there's a fire & my laptop burns up I don't lose everything. And secondly, if I don't put the flash drive someplace safe I can pretty much guarantee it's going to disappear.

Maybe even if I put it someplace safe. This is a tiny piece of equipment. About the size of a piece of gum. The little stubby kind, not the long flat kind. Maybe an inch long & a fraction as thick. It's hard to believe something that small has more memory than the first four computers I owned combined. Probably more memory than the entire Apollo moon mission.
