Today's a celebration. Fat Boy, our outside cat, has been missing. It's been really cold and we've been worried. I think somebody assumed he was a stray and took him inside. On the other hand, some of our neighbors, well, really some of our neighbors' kids, really like Fat Boy, so maybe somebody who knew he wasn't a stray took him inside. Either way, I'm pretty sure somebody was taking care of him. After all, he's not dirty or bony. When I was little we had an outdoor cat that got frostbite on the tips of his ears. They turned black & snapped off, leaving his ears kind of stumpy and rounded. Fat Boy still has his pointy little ears.
This morning when I was waiting for the dogs to do their morning business I heard 'Meow, meow, moew!' and saw a familiar tan kitty coming around the side of the house. He's one of those cats that insists on getting petted but once you pick him up he wants to jump back down.
Fickle.
So, anyway, now everybody's present and accounted for. I decided that deserves a celebration, so I'm treating myself to a soda. This is just the 5th soda I've had so far this year, so I think I'm doing pretty good. One drink every 4 or 5 days instead of 3 or 4 drinks every day. That right there should have the pounds just melting off.
I haven't been as good at the exercise part of my resolution. I've only gone walking about every 3 or 4 days. I was blaming it on the weather, but it's not butt-chilling cold anymore so my only excuse is shear laziness. I decided since I'm having trouble getting off my ass in the mornings I'll walk at work on my first break. 15 minutes of exercise is a whole lot better than 0 minutes of exercise.
There's what they call a quiet room at work that used to be a gym, and on the wall there's a paper that says how many laps around the room you would have to take to go a certain distance. I don't remember, something like 30 laps is 1/4 mile. I'm not going to walk around in circles for 15 minutes, so I walk all over. Up and down the aisles, all over the locker room, down the hall and back.
I'm even more serious about improving my diet & exercise now because a good friend I went to high school with had a heart attack on Martin Luther King Day. She's just now getting out of the hospital & won't be able to go back to work for another couple of weeks. She's 2 years younger than me, but she smokes. At least I don't have to deal with that, too. Just soda & walking shoes.
And doctor visits. I probably ought to go see the doctor to get everything checked out. I haven't been in a long time and to be honest, I'm boycotting my medicine. Last year when money was tight that was my contribution to stretching the budget. I don't really think I needed all the medicine I was supposed to take. My blood pressure was high a couple of years ago when I had a pinched nerve but it's fine now. I'll admit, I should probably go back to taking my cholesterol & diabetes medicine, and if fresh blood tests say I need them I'll take them. Every day. Whatever the doctor says.
After all, a bottle of pills is a lot cheaper than a heart attack.
