How Does Your Garden Grow?

Well, my garden moat system is working as planned. When it rains they fill with water but the bed area stays out of the water. I'm sure the soil is saturated, but at least the plants aren't submerged. The tomatoes and peppers and onions are growing like nobody's business.

At least, the ones that the rabbits haven't nibbled. They're still public enemy #1 here at Casa de Cud. The neighbor said he saw four rabbits out enjoying the vegetable buffet. The cats are sure letting me down, but one of them did catch a small rabbit the other day. I don't know if he took care of business or just played with it & then let it go. Feline catch & release. I think most people that think bunnies are cute never had a garden. If you've had a garden you know they're really evil furry agents of destruction.

On the bright side, at least most of the peppers & tomatoes they've nibbled on had enough stem left to sprout out some new leafs & didn't just flat out die. Of course, they're basically little tiny infant sprouts compared to the ones that didn't get eaten. Or drowned. So I have an assortment of fairly healthy plants interspersed with tender little half-dead emo plants.

And then there's those plants that just didn't make it. Either never came up or died completely. RIP eggplants, which isn't that big a deal since I don't really like eggplant anyway. I just planted it because I had seeds for a fancy eggplant that looks like a big purple banana. Plus I've had the shittiest luck with cucumbers. I planted two kinds & neither came up, so I bought seeds for two different types & planted them. This time one kind came up but the other kind is still just a row of dirt. Maybe they're slow to sprout, or maybe they're just little bitches. So I'm thinking about putting some green beans in their place, and put zucchini where the eggplants used to be. Not that I like zucchini much better than eggplant, but Mary likes it, so maybe.
