Doing A Little Research

I was out shopping yesterday and started browsing through the book section. I was thinking about my little novel, and wanted to get an idea of what the competition was like. I think my best chance of getting it published would be to market it as a (GASP) romance novel, so I checked out the Harlequin section. I decided if I was going to read a romance novel, it was going to be a good one, so I bought the only one that had UNCUT splashed across the cover. Can you say soft porn?

The title of it was Virgin for Sale, the touching story of two high power business tycoons, who meet when he is trying to buy out her company. She follows him to his private Greek island, trying to save her company, but, surprise, surprise, they fall in love. And have sex. Over and over. I need to add a whole lot of sex scenes to my story to make it anything like that story. Even the one loney sex scene I already put in was just a pale shadow compared to the detailed, blow by blow account of any of the sex scenes in Virgin for Sale. I told my husband we were going to have to do a lot of research, if you know what I mean.
