A Mother's Day Moment
Some girls were having a bake sale outside County Market on Mother's Day today and I was pondering some brownies when a woman stepped in and said, "My Mom has been gone for seven years and I can't get her anything, so I'd like to buy them for you." At first I didn't know what to say--I'm seldom blessed with generosity from perfect strangers--but thanking her seemed the only thing to do. I mentioned my own Mom had been gone for some time but hardly a day goes by that I don't think of her. Her face lit up and she said it was the same with her. We agreed that Moms are always there in the back of your head telling you what to do, and that her Mom told her to buy me those brownies and my Mom told me to go ahead and enjoy them. The girl selling the brownies looked at us like, Are these two women nuts, or what? I wonder if she went home and told her Mom about it, and her Mom smiled
