Crushed

I know what you're thinking. I'm so bummed out because I'm laid off again I can barely function.

Wrong.

Well, I am bummed, but I'm not having any problem functioning.

The margaritas are helping a lot.

This is a totally unrelated entry. A couple of days ago, back in the good old days when I had a job, I was on my way to work when I got stuck behind a trash truck. I didn't really mind because I was going in early to get some overtime, so it's not like it was going to make me late for work. Besides, it was fascinating.

You see, the trash truck was working in front of this house that had a pile of furniture set out for pick-up. A mattress, a couch & a matching loveseat, some other assorted crap. I got to watch the trash man haul it all over to the truck & juggle it up into the back. One guy did it all. It wasn't all that hard because really all he had to do was get it leaning up into the back & then kind of lever it inside a little. Then he pushed a button & the Jaws of Death came down & crushed up the end inside the truck. Once the Jaws of Death raised back up he pushed in a little more mattress or couch or whatever was getting crushed at the time & then the Jaws of Death came back down & crushed a little more.

Like the trash truck was having a delicious, mattress flavored snack. When it was over all that was left was a little wooden wedge of one of the legs of the couch or love seat.
