Now Don't I Feel Silly

I was pissed at the library. They were teasing me with a book I really wanted. Skipping Towards Gomorrah by Dan Savage. I got home from running around the city with Mom and The Kid, checked my e-mail and found one from the library saying the book was waiting for me. I was kind of miffed because I went to the library while we were in town, but I didn't have that book. No problem, I thought. I'd just go to the library the next day on my way to work. So I did. They looked at me like I was crazy. 'There's no book here,' they said. 'Maybe it's still on it's way.'

So I left, went to work, came home, checked my e-mail again. It clearly said they book was ready to pick up. Not on it's way, or thinking about stopping by or anything like that. It was there.

But I was cool. Okay, I thought. I'll just stop by again in a day or two. They'll have it then.

No they didn't. I stopped again, asked them to check, check, and double check.

No book.

Then I checked on-line and the library had the nerve to say they already gave me the book.

That was when I started getting mad. I checked my stack of library books. I checked the bags of books I got at the Goodwill when I went out with Mom and The Girl. No library book. I even called Mom to see if I left it in her car, but no such luck. She just got her car detailed and said if there had been a book in it she would know about it. So I was really starting to wonder where the hell my book was, when The Girl said 'why don't you look in my bag of library books?'

Why not, indeed.

There it was, in with all her books.

I owe the library for all the bad things I thought about it.
