My New Mantra
Ever since I started writing Sassafras, I have been comparing my life with Joan's, and frankly, I'm jealous. She's my role model. I'm always asking myself 'What would Joan do?' Joan doesn't slouch in her chair. She has good posture, shoulders back, head held high. She remembers the advice Mammy gave Scarlet and eats like a lady, she doesn't wolf her food down like a field hand. She would never let her legs get hairier than Rick's legs. When her laundry is dry she folds it and puts it away. She wouldn't leave a big wrinkly mass of clothes in the drier. Plus, she has nice clothes, not just jeans and t-shirts. My clothes were fine when I worked in restaurants, or in the factory, but now I have a cushy sit-down office job, and could wear nice clothes all the time. I just don't have any. What would Joan do? Go shopping. I think that's a good idea.
