And The Winner Is!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the little people who made this possible. I'd like to thank The Girl for not complaining about me hogging the laptop all month. I'd like to thank my husband for encouraging me every day, and doing laundry for me. I'd like to thank Little Dog for helping by sitting on my lap the whole time and encouraging me with plenty of good doggy loving. I'd also like to thank Buddy, but he didn't do anything but lay on the floor and sleep, so he didn't really help very much. I'd like to thank my mom and dad for giving me all these wonderful novelist genes, and introducing me to the library when I was younger, and not complaining when I checked out so many books I needed a wheelbarrow to haul them all home in. Okay, maybe not a wheelbarrow, but at least a good sturdy book bag.

Now, I know I promised to put my novel on here, but even though I hit 50,000 words, I'm not really done with the story. I'm still tweaking the ending, and then I need to go through and spell check it. I had to turn the spell checker off when I was writing because I didn't want to waste time worrying about spelling. It didn't matter if the words were spelled right or not, they counted either way. Plus, I ended up writing the story from two different view points, and now I want to go through and work on the story from just one side and then go over again from the other side to make sure each of them have separate personalities. So you are going to have to wait just a little longer.

NaNoWriMo Update

I know all my adoring fans are loosing sleep, worrying about whether I will make it to the finish line of 50,000 words by the end of the month. Right now, I have just over 42,000. Way to go Ruth! If I got this far and don't win, somebody shoot me, okay?

Time For A Break

I'm taking a little break from my novel writing. I should be at 25,000 words, but I only have 20,000. I need to just keep writing and worry about details later. I also had a brainstorm that I need to go back and add lots of he saids and she saids to the dialog. Sure, I don't need them and I think it works better without all of them cluttering up the page, but they're two words more than what I had.

And on a lighter note, tonight at work I actually told a caller I had lots of Cox.

Typing My Fingers To The Bone

Well, I have been typing like a banshe. I have to write 50,000 words by the end of the month, and so far I am right on track at about 16,000. So far things are going great. My main character finally decided to trust the undercover DEA agent, but is it too late? I keep thinking about killing the DEA agent, but I don't know if I should or not. Maybe I'll let my main character get a little and then kill him off. I can be mean like that.

PUPPY CHOW

Here's a great recipe to surprise your friends (and, better, enemies!). A lady brought it to a Meals on Wheels work session when we were getting out the newsletter, and everybody loved it. She served it from a Purina Puppy Chow bag for additional realism. Here it is:

Puppy Chow

3/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter
8 cups Crispix cereal
2 cups powdered sugar

Melt the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter together. Pour over the cereal in a large kettle or bowl and stir well. Pour the powdered sugar into a large brown paper bag and add the cereal. Fold the bag to seal and shake well to coat evenly.

If you can't find Crispix, you can use Rice Chex, but the shape of Crispix pieces makes it look more realistic. If you want to have some fun, don't tell your guests what it is. Just dip into the bag and munch on some yourself, then offer them some. See who the wimps are.

NaNoWriMo Mania

I might not get around to a lot of posts for the next few weeks. I'm deep in the heart of National Novel Writing Month. I have 6,000 words out of the target 50,000 so far, and I've only been writing three days. If you want a sample of my story, go to NoNoWriMo and look for Reikiruth. Now, back to my novel.
