Some Like It Hot

As much as I am looking forward to the Olympics, I'm thinking about postponing them. I am on vacation starting this Saturday, and was planning on having the Olympics the Saturday after that, the 6th and 7th of August. I'm just afraid there might be a death toll if I have the Olympics then. We're having a tsunami of a heat wave. The heat index has been averaging 115 degrees. The other night the low was 80 degrees. It's so hot, the fire alarms at my house started going off because it must have been about 300 degrees in the attic. I'm glad my husband isn't still driving the Bel Air. Even driving 70 with all four windows down it would be like a convection oven.

Another reason to postpone the Olympics is because I don't know if my mom and dad can come up from Texas that weekend. My dad has been having a problem with his blood pressure. Maybe Mom can give an update on that. Last time I talked to them, he was doing better, but the doctor wants to keep an eye on him. The Olypics wouldn't be the same without them.

On a brighter note, my two new cats are getting along great. They love each other. My husband was walking down the hall last night and saw them loving each other right on the floor. We know the male is fixed, and think the female is, too, but they were getting some kitty loving anyway. I thought they would eventually get along, but I didn't think they would be doing the wild thing.

It's All Good

My mother-in-law was in a car accident last week. Somebody in front of her ran into the person in front of them, then she ran into him. I don't know where it happened, or how fast she was going. Luckily, she is okay, but her car was totalled. She borrowed our van, which left my husband driving the hot rod. He calls it the hot rod because it's so hot when you drive it, not because it's a fast car. Yesterday she bought a new car, so my husband has his van back. She has a new Ford 500.

I want a different car, but I don't really want a brand new one. My husband went with his mom when she bought her car, and said he saw a car that I would like, but do I really need a brand new car? All I want is something a little smaller than what I have now. Something that gets better gas mileage. Something that gets better oil mileage. I have to add a quart of oil every time I fill the gas tank. It makes Mother Nature cry.

So our plan is to sell the hot rod. My husband is sick of driving it with no air, radio, or power steering. I don't know if we're going to sell my car, or keep it for a back up. Then we are going to start looking for a car for me. What I'd really like is one of those little Mini Coopers. Those are cute. I just don't want to spend that much money.

Here's the Hot Rod Posted by Picasa
Picture Time

I am experimenting with pictures. I don't know exactly what I'm doing, but my husband wants me to put up some pictures of his hot rod. First, here's a picture from the way-back file of me and my dog Buddy in 1993, when he was about 6 months old. We've both grown since then. I am going to put up a recent picture of him, and you'll just have to use your imagination on what I look like now.

Very Dissapointed

I guess I expected too much. I thought surely if I asked for suggestions from my fan base you guys would flood me with ideas for the scavenger hunt, or other games to play. I kept checking, and checking, and checking. No luck. I thought about making a couple of posts, but didn't want to push the Olypic post farther down the page. Out of sight, out of mind after all.

You guys are a bunch of freeloaders. I have to admit, after I posted the scavenger hunt list I thought I was going to have trouble, but I thought the trouble would be Mom coming up here with the camper stuffed full of scavenger hunt items. I've been adding things to the scavenger hunt list, but I'm not telling what they are. I only added a couple of games, frisbee golf and something else.

I just hope it's not going to be too hot for the outside games. On the other hand, it might be nice to have two Olympic games, one indoor summer Olympic game, and save the outdoor games for the fall when it's cooler.

There's so much to do to get ready. I have to get whistles for the referees. I have to decide where the different games are going to be. I wouldn't want the sack racers running through the badmitton court, or the croquet players getting hit by stray paintballs.

I came up with an easy way to keep score in some games, like thumb wrestling. I'm going to spray paint pennies different colors, and everybody that wants to enter an event will get a set of pennies of a certain color. The looser of each match gives the winner a penny. Then at the end of the Olympics whoever has the most pennies is the winner. That way people don't have to keep track of who they played, or who won what match.

I am so looking forward to the Olympics. This is going to be better than Drink Race 2000.
